Los Premios Oscar se llevaron a cabo en el Dolby Theatre de Los Ángeles y contaron con la presencia de importantes personalidades de la industria del cine. La ceremonia fue conducida por Jimmy Kimmel, quien ofició de anfitrión por tercera vez consecutiva.
Everything Everywhere All At Once (Todo en todas partes al mismo tiempo), la película dirigida por Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert se convirtió en una de las grandes triunfadoras de la noche, llevándose 7 premios Oscar, incluyendo el premio a Mejor película y Mejor director.
En cuanto a las actuaciones, el premio a Mejor Actor fue para Brendan Fraser por su papel en The Whale. Por su parte, en la categoría de Mejor Actriz, el galardón fue para Michelle Yeoh por su interpretación en Everything Everywhere All at Once. A Yeoh se le unieron Jamie Lee Curtis como Mejor actriz secundaria y Ke Huy Quan como Mejor actor secundario.
En la categoría de Mejor Película Internacional, la ganadora fue All Quiet on the Western Front del director alemán Edward Berger. La cinta, basada en el libro de Erich Maria Remarque, sigue la historia de un joven soldado alemán que se alista en el ejército para combatir en la Primera Guerra Mundial, donde se encontrará con la cruda realidad de las trincheras. Además de haberse consagrado en la terna de Mejor película internacional, el filme se quedó con los premios a Mejor banda sonora, Mejor fotografía y Mejor diseño de producción.
La noche también estuvo marcada por momentos emotivos, como la interpretación de Lady Gaga, nominada a Mejor canción original por Hold My Hand de Top Gun: Maverick. Otro de los momentos emotivos fue el tributo a los miembros de la industria del cine que fallecieron en el último año, Entre los que se encontraban nombres como Olivia Newton John, Rachel Welch y Ray Liotta.
Otro de los destacados de la velada fue el triunfo de Guillermo Del Toro. El director mexicano ganó el premio a Mejor película animada por Pinocho, convirtiéndose en la primera persona en ganar un Oscar a Mejor película, Mejor director y Mejor película animada.
